Jottum Kok is a filmmaker and photographer, based in Amsterdam.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My fascination with film and photography started at a young age. Strolling behind my parents on the Côte d'Azur, I looked at the world through the lens of my Canon 6D. As a child I already felt the urgency to capture the world on image. Back home in the Netherlands I had a full SD card, often with the same photo of a palm tree I took 10 times...
Over the years I have become more picky about what I capture of the world. But I still like to go out, meeting new people and capture stories that I knew little about before. As some one who creaties stories by making films and photographs I have a great fascination for underexposed groups that struggle to find their place in society. People who, despite their hopeless situation, appear powerful and conquer their place in the world. My goal is therefore to broach topics through small, personal stories that reflect on the current society in which we live in today.
